Senior Researcher
'The Jeremy Kyle Show' was a UK daytime talk show produced by ITV Studios. The show first broadcast in 2005 on ITV and became a widely recognised — and sometimes controversial — part of British popular culture. The series also aired internationally in countries including Australia, New Zealand, and parts of Europe.
At its peak, the show regularly attracted audiences of over a million viewers per episode, making it one of the UK’s most-watched daytime programmes.
I began my television career on the show as a runner, before progressing to Junior Researcher and then Senior Researcher. This is where I gained comprehensive experience on a fast-paced, studio-recorded programme. My responsibilities included casting contributors for episodes, sourcing compelling stories, and supporting filming in the studio under tight deadlines. Some of my most enjoyable roles on the show were rehab specials, where we helped participants access beds in rehab centres and support for recovery. Other key moments were working on reunion specials, reuniting families and individuals — many of whom I am still in contact with today.
I was part of the team when the show ended in May 2019, an event that had a significant impact on British culture and television, sparking debate about the ethics of daytime talk shows, participant welfare, and the responsibilities of producers to contributors. Reflecting on my time on 'The Jeremy Kyle Show', I now speak openly about the lessons learned regarding duty of care and welfare, which became a central focus for producers after the cancellation. That experience highlighted the importance of safeguarding participants, providing psychological support, and ensuring informed consent — lessons that continue to shape how I approach every production I work on today.
