A Killer Makes A Call
'A Killer Makes a Call' is a gripping true-crime documentary series that airs in the UK on Channel 5, and is also available for streaming via Channel 5’s catch-up / on-demand platforms. The Series since being released has reached Number 1 on the websites 'Most Watched Shows'.
Each episode begins with a chilling twist on the classic murder-investigation format: a 999 (emergency) call comes in — not from a distraught witness or frightened loved one, but from the killer themself. From that call, the episode unravels the chain of events, the crime, the investigation and ultimately how authorities catch the murderer.
This dramatic structure — combining the raw audio or recreation of the call with interviews, archival research, and forensic and police evidence — sets the show apart in the true-crime genre.
As a Producer on the series, my role was pivotal. I researched the cases from the ground up, sourced and vetted archival material, casting the right contributors, and conducted interviews — crafting sensitive but probing interview questions so contributors could recount their stories thoughtfully. Some of the cases in the series had never before been subject to a full documentary treatment; and in some episodes, we secured exclusive access to people speaking publicly for the first time — family members, police, associates and others closely linked to the crimes.
One particular episode I produced attracted national media attention when, during filming, previously unknown evidence relating to the remains of a victim who had disappeared more than 50 years earlier was discovered. That discovery triggered renewed public interest and led to a court case seeking permission to search for the remains — underscoring how documentary work can have real-world impact, long after the cameras stop rolling.
My work on 'A Killer Makes a Call' reflects my commitment not only to compelling storytelling but to ethical, thorough, responsible production — giving voice to victims, their families and investigators, while treating sensitive subjects with the care and respect they deserve.
